Feedback About This Message Board

Postby JLM » Fri Jul 16, 2010 9:58 am

This new message board is a work-in-progress. Hopefully, after the kinks are worked out, it will be a general improvement over the current message board.

Please help us troubleshoot bugs & tweak settings by sharing your feedback in this thread.

Howdy John, well I created a username and password...
question: if you switch to this new message board, will the archives of the old board be brought on board? Or would we all "start from scratch?" I'm hoping for total continuity and retention of the board's history if you make a change.

Also, would the appearance of the new board (if you decide to change) be the same as the current board? I do like the current "look" of the board. On the other hand, I wonder why the board seemed to lose some steam when you switched from Bravenet to Typepad..seems like with all the new folks continuing to come into NL, a NL message board should be more active, not less.. just thinking out loud here.

Hey Mitch,

Thanks for taking the new board for a test drive. It doesn't look like the old threads are able to be imported into this new site. But, I will be able to "lock" the old message board so that it can be used as a reference.

Gmail and Spam

Postby nladmin » Sun Aug 01, 2010 2:40 pm

Folks,

It seems that many confirmation emails are being treated as spam. If you don't get a confirmation email within a few minutes of registering on the new message board please check your spam folder.

If you are a Gmail user you can find your Spam folder in the left column of your computer screen. If you see the "Welcome to Northernliberties.org" email in your spam folder click on it, then click "not spam" from the menu just above the email.

If you haven't received a confirmation email and can't find it in your spam folder please email me with the username you registered with and I'll investigate.

Well, I have been able to log onto the new site, hope that things here will go for the better. Oh and any idea of when the old site will be out of service. Roman.

As soon as we're confident that this new message board is stable... Probably within a month.

One issue I see is that I have to click 2 links to get into the message board. Can't we just get right into the list of threads?

I agree with bloome. Ultimately, northernliberties.net will redirect here, right?

I'm wondering if there's a need to have NL Message Board inside Northern Liberties. In fact, I would think Northern Liberties might be inside NL Message Board. This way you could create other groups like Fishtown, Political, City Wide Events, etc within the NL Message Board so people can stay on point. Then hopefully I can steer clear of bob's ramblings and border wars would go away as long as a post about Frankford and Girard goes in the Fishtown group.

I definitely like the idea of a couple sub-forums.
Maybe set up one for the "for sale/trade" stuff too?

I would like to see creation of a few categories for posts. This would be a great way to 1. Keep focused on neighborhood news, and 2. Allow people to read only what interests them. Of course, maintenance could be a problem, but I believe that most people would adhere to the categories if they are defined well enough. (There will always be some overlap, but I wouldn't sweat it too much.) I expect that there will be no editor, which I think is probably a good thing.

- Business News & Promotions
- Upcoming Events
- Political Topics
- Restaurant & Bar Discussions (Reviews, Comments, ...)
- Crime Reports
- Community News & Concerns
- Neighborhood History
- Housing (Looking & Offering)
- For Sale, For Trade, For Free
- Have You Seen My Pet?
- I Actually Live In NoLibs & Like To Interact With My Neighbors
- Happenings Outside of NoLibs
- General & Nonsense

This list is off of the top of my head (and not all meant to be taken seriously), but I think it is a good idea to segment the discussions since it is likely that most people wish to avoid certain topics altogether. Also it helps stimulate more discussion about the neighborhood without excluding general topics.

Roman, I was thinking those pictures could go under the "Neighborhood History" category.

I agree subforums would be a welcomed addition. My recommendation based on past forum setup experiences would be to first with a few topics let users petition & request for additional forums.

Maybe…
- General Discussion
- Local Business Reviews & News
- Neighborhood History
- For Sale, For Rent, For Trade, For Free
- Off-Topic (This is a must as it allows people to use the forum for discussions other then NoLibs…also gives moderators a place to move topics too.)

Looking forward to this new site - Any need for moderators?
