The Sakhioba Ensemble

The Sakhioba Ensemble will be singing at St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church, 335 Fairmount Avenue, Philadelphia, on Sunday, October 28th at 7:00 pm. Please join us for an evening of beautiful chant and folk song. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $15.

The Sakhioba Ensemble is a 13-person male ensemble that was founded in 2006, and is currently led by director and ethnomusicologist, Malkhaz Erkvanidze. Malkhaz Erkvanidze is one of the foremost teachers of Georgian Orthodox Chant. While studying musicology at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, he founded the influential Anchiskhati Church Choir, which over the course of 20 years has produced more than ten seminal recordings of Georgian liturgical chant. In his capacity as a consultant on chant for the Georgian Patriarchate, Malkhaz has compiled and edited six volumes of church chant.
