Debris STILL not cleaned up from the 2nd Street Festival...

Postby NLPetLover » Mon Sep 24, 2012 11:54 am

I am posting this in the hopes that something will finally get done about large barricades from the 2nd Street Festival that have been on the corner of Brown and American for almost two months.

I have tried emailing every contact I could find on the website for the festival. I have contacted 311, the streets department, and anyone else the city forwarded me to. We even tried putting them out with the trash, but they were not collected. Two months later, these are still there.

Not only are these barricades an eyesore, but they are also a hazard. Depending on which way people use to push these large (some peices are over 6 feet long) objects out of the way, they are either partially in the street, or partially on the sidewalk. People often struggle to easily navigate the sidewalk with strollers. Also, in a neighborhood prone to break-ins and burglaries, I am wondering how long it will take for someone to pick up one of these and use it to smash a window in a car or a home.

While it is great that we can have these great events in our neighborhood, it is a shame that the organizers of this particular event "checked-out" the second the rain started pouring and the event was over.

I am hoping that someone reading this can either do something about this, point me in the right direction, or that someone needs some fire wood.

These are the blue and yellow police barricades you're talking about? Have you tried the police (6th district for Brown and American) themselves? I think they are, technically, responsible for bringing and taking away those barriers.

Realistically, though, I have never known police barricades to leave one place by any means other than someone who needs them picking them up and moving them to the next place they are needed.

Yes they are the barricades. The police have been contacted and done nothing. A policy of not removing barricades until they are needed somewhere else seems ridiculous. And a cop out.

I'm thinking of taking it home and putting it up on my street when I don't feel like hearing the weekend traffic out front.
