Escalating Panhandling Situation on Lawrence St in NoLibs

I live on the 1000 block of Lawrence Street. On multiple occasions over the past couple of months, I’ve been approached by the same individual panhandling on our block. My concern is that he seems to be getting more aggressive. Recently, he approached my wife’s car with both her and our 19 month old inside and attempted to open the car door.

[He is a ] White male, probably in his 40’s. Not particularly tall, maybe 5’9” or so. About 140 lbs.

Last time he approached us was last Saturday (9/1) at about 5:30 p.m. Was wearing a t-shirt and long pants. Didn’t notice any tattoos. Said something about just getting out of Methodist Hospital.

Two other times he approached our car (including the time he pulled on the door handle) over the last two months while it was parked in the parking lot of St. John Newman.

Townwatch says: Please call 911 if approached by this panhandler as his behavior seems to be escalating. The info has forwarded to the DA's Action Center at the Piazza and to the 26th District.

This guy did the same thing to me at 3rd & Brown a few months ago. He was banging on the window of my car as I was pulling out of a spot. Claims he needed money for cancer treatment.

I've been approached by the same scruffy skinny middle aged white guy a few times in the past couple months. The story has always been some variant of needs a few bucks towards a $25 charge for medicine for bladder cancer. I let him tell his story then shake my head no, and he goes on his way. I guess that he doesn't know/recall that he's already used this pitch with me. Encounters have been at Lawrence and Girard, 5th and Girard, 6th and Girard, Lawrence and Poplar.
