Great news - thank you Matt and all who opposed this, for your perseverence! Now we just have to hope that City Council doesn't overturn the veto.

This is precisely what they wanted all along. Do you really think they wanted(or thought the would get) balconies hanging over the sidewalks? It's standard developer bullshit. Ask for the world and then settle for what you wanted in the first place while the congregation pats each other on the back victoriously.

THE CITY JUST GAVE A BAR A STREET.

i know, it is outrageous that they are getting public land for free to grow their private business :( ... but i'm still glad they won't get their obtrusive party decks.

As of this weekend, the illegal dumpster was still blocking Bodine Street. I guess they will have to pay all those fines before getting ownership of the street.
The NLNA has asked repeatedly for removal of this dumpster. It has been there YEARS.
Perhaps our Councilman will take this reckless disregard the law as a reason not to try to override the Mayor's Veto.

I just spoke to Councilman Squilla. He said Council leadership is going to schedule a veto-override vote on the bill. I assume that will happen immediately, during Council's Sep 13 session.

He said it's because of the principle of Councilmanic prerogative. As folks may know, whenever a district Council member introduces a bill that impacts only his or her district, the other 16 members traditionally vote for it as a courtesy - and they expect the administration not to veto it, for the same reason. Council has a standing practice of voting a straight 17-0 to override any Mayoral veto of a bill that's considered a "Councilmanic prerogative" bill, regardless of what's in the bill. (Which is why Mayors hardly ever veto such bills, and why it was a surprise when Mayor Nutter did so.)

Councilman Squilla also reiterated that as far as he's concerned, Finnigan's will not start building anything unless and until they come to an agreement with the community, and both the Bodine and Spring Garden ordinances are amended accordingly.

So that's the most recent information we've received.

Best,
Matt

otherwise known as "you don't mess with my bribes and corruption, I won't mess with yours".

so stupid, do they really think that (bad) decisions made in one district have absolutely no ramifications across the city?

Council really is a waste of taxpayers' money, even with new members, they continue to be a self-serving body for sale to the highest bidder.

Isn't Squilla supposed to be working for all taxpayers in his district, not just Driscoll and Bob Brady?
