Movie Night and Book Club
at St. Michael Russian Orthodox Church
4th & Fairmount Ave.
The Parish Book Club has a name...
St. Innocent of Alaska Orthodox Reading Society
Will tentatively meet on Wednesday, September, 19 at 7pm in the Church Hall.
We hope to begin our discussions by working on the Introduction and First Chapter of Christ the Conqueror of Hell by Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev. For those of you who have ordered copies of the book but have yet to receive your copy, I have the books so let me know if you want to get your copy before the first meeting. I have extra books if anyone who has not ordered a copy is interested, just let me know. We would like to strive to have two meetings each month, usually on Wednesday evenings, but with the Russian Festival at St. Michael's fast approaching, the tentative schedule after the first meeting is: Tues Oct 9 and Weds Oct 24.

Movie Night is Back!
Archangel Kino will meet on Friday, September, 28 at 7pm
Eisenstein's Alexander Nevsky (1938) will be shown.
It is the 13th century, and Russia is overrun by foreign invaders. A Russian knyaz', or prince, Alexander Nevsky, rallies the people to form a ragtag army to drive back an invasion by the Teutonic knights. This is a true story based on the actual battle at a lake near Novgorod.
For more details about the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0029850/
Depending on the weather, we are planning to show this film outdoors on the 4th street side of St. Michael the Archangel Church. By that date, the time of sunset should allow for an outdoor showing. I will provide more information as we get closer to the date, but if the weather holds out, you may want to bring a lawn chair to witness what just might be the first outdoor Russian movie in Northern Liberties (or Philadelphia, or maybe the USA)! As always, popcorn will be provided.
