Replacing a facade on 2nd street

My son Rich is repairing the facade on a building on 2nd street, just north of Poplar. After removing the front, it looks like there was a cross on the front of the building. Does anyone know if that was a place of worship at one time? It's on the west side of 2nd street. It would be interesting to know its original use.
