Yeah, it was unfortunate that it got rained out at 6:30 - but it was still great for 6-1/2 hours. Great food, drink, music, merchandise, and people. All the NL businesses and volunteers who organized it did a fantastic job. Kudos to them!

Best,
Matt

The 2nd St Festival was an AMAZING day. Congrats to everyone involved. Plus the day after walking up and down 2nd St you could not tell that their were thousands of people there the day before. The street looked immaculate. It just keeps getting better every year even with the rain!

I'm glad the festival was a success. I have to respectfully disagree about the clean-up. I think 2nd street looked like a red-cup bomb went off yesterday. And, as of late last night, the police barricades were still all over the place. I think if we're going to give Bart a hard time about events at the Piazza, we need to be fair when there are issues with other events. The neighborhood looked absolutey disgusting yesterday well into the night. Hopefully it's cleaned up today.

LOL 2nd street definitely did NOT look spotless on Monday morning as I walked to the EL and it looked the same 12 hours later Monday night as I was heading home. Cups, trash, police barricades etc still there. It's obvious who cleaned outside of their business and who just said "Fuck It".

Nice try though.

See this was my point in an earlier post about the 104.5 concerts at the Piazza. Anytime you have an event on a large scale there will be problems, it is not just concentrated to Tower. Those in the neighborhood who don't like the Piazza will complain about it, despite the fact that the events they hold in high regard come with many of the same issues. That being said, I had a great time at the festival and despite many intoxicated people, the disticnt smell of marijuana in the air, lack of parking (literally someone parked on the sidewalk in front of my house), music heard blocks away, witnessing a kid urinating on North Hancock street behind North Bowl and the fact that I had to reach down my dogs throat 24 hours after the event to get a disgarded chicken bone left over on 2nd street while we were out for a walk, I thought it was a success. Again, people will see what they want to see...

Our happiness or misery depends on our dispositions
and not on our circumstances.

At least we can all agree that the cleanup for both these events was a thousand times better than the shitty job they did after the Night Market.

I thought it was a great time until the winds kicked up. There should have been a plan in effect for a situation like that. I was walking with my 15 month daughter to get a dry haven when one of the tents that vendors used blew over right by us. If we had been three feet closer, the legs of the tent would have slammed into my kid. Thankfully that was not the case, but why were these tents unsecured? It summer time, thunderstorms with winds occur frequently. The tents could have seriously hurt someone. I was surprised at how many vendors did not take the time to take the tents down, they just grabbed their stuff and ran off once the rain started.

Other than that, it was fun.

Any idea on when the barricades that were used to block off the streets for this event will be removed from the sidewalks? I know there are still some on Brown and American...
