car break-in 3rd and girard - i saw some sketchy dudes

"Posting this for a friend...

Hey! Had a buddy's car get broken into on 3rd street near Girard at 8am this morning. His macbook was stolen from the front seat. Give him a ring if anyone knows any details, etc. - 856-266-7120.

I've encouraged him to file a police report, etc.

His car is still there, tan sedan....No marks on the laptop or any stickers, so it's a little difficult to identify the laptop, just a macbook circa 2008, he believes.

If anyone wants to post this on the SSFF Facebook group, that would be great. I would, but I left the insanity a few weeks ago."

this could be related:

just around the same time (8-30ish this morning), my partner called me on his way to work and said there were some sketchy dudes milling around 3rd and cambridge/bodine (he stood at 3rd and girard watching them for a couple minutes). one had a black duffel bag and the other had a washcloth or something wrapped around his hand. we didn't want to jump to conclusions-- maybe they were movers or laborers waiting for a truck? but the longer they lingered, it was obvious they were casing cars. i went outside and watched them walk down cambridge slowly all the way to 4th, then back to 3rd. i saw them head south down 3rd, then cut through liberty's walk and south on american. didn't see them any further because i was just going to get a coffee and not trying to follow them.

description: 2 black males, probably in their 20s. one was slim, athletic build in a black tee and light blue jeans. the other was slightly heavyset and wearing a white or beige tee and blue jeans.

Jump to conclusions next time. If you were wrong, it should've been nothing more than an officer driving by, seeing nothing and driving away. It's easier to ask forgiveness than it is to fix a car window.

i'm thinking the break-in happened before we saw them, and they were looking for another target, but left because they were being watched. i was staring them down (from a safe distance) and had my phone out. i know, i should have called the cops. i guess i was just surprised that anyone would attempt a car break-in at a time of day in a visible area, when there are lots of people around (walking to the el, waiting at the busstop, getting into their cars, walking their dogs, etc).

will people please stop leaving laptops in their cars?? :/

Hey, if people leave stuff like that out in plain site, you're bringing it on yourself to have your car broken into. Nothing of value should be visible!

Check the Northern Liberties Neighbors page on Facebook. I posted a picture there of someone who had tried to break into my car, and it may match the description.

A friend of mine in that same vicinity woke up to her Mini Cooper on a jack with missing wheels and tires this morning.

saw a dude trying to steal a motorcycle in the same area this morning, around 6:30am. the bike was not chained/locked. he acted like he wasn't doing anything when i took out my recycling, then went back to trying to mess with the bike when i went inside. i opened the door again, and he left in a gold cadillac with a dark color top and PA plates.

we are watching you, GTFO off this block!

Any particular reason you didn't call 911?

1. He left and didn't come back. If I saw him again I would have. ETA: Also, he was driving the car, at least when he left. If he did try to steal the bike, it would have taken him a bit of time to leave with it-- idk, was he going to toss the motorcycle in the backseat? Or was he just trying to steal parts? If I saw him physically removing/lifting something, 911 would have been called.

2.The owner came to start her bike up about an hour later and I let her know what happened.

Thanks for clarifying. Until I really started paying attention to these boards and the crime reports I found myself very reluctant to assume the worst and did not call 911 ever. Now I'd rather error on the side of caution (within reason).
