The signs are going up right now on BOTH sides of 900 New Market St. This is great!

This is good news. I was aware someone was working on this (I think I've signed more than one petition over the past few years!), but didn't realize it had been approved. Does anyone know if there's a grace period to allow residents time to get the permit? I just checked out the PPA site and there's no info on this. FYI, you can go in person to get a permit.

Glad to hear the neighbors have gotten this. Hopefully it will improve the parking situation for them.

Best,
Matt

That is good news for the New Market folks. The next step will be deciding what to do with the parcel of land that has been discussed with local politicans (next to 95) as far as it being either parking or green space or combination of both.

Did not see any permit parking signs on the 1000 block.

I live on the 900 block of New Market st, how can I make sure I get a permit? I've never gone through this process before

The PPA application seems to require a copy of your vehicle registration. Thing is...my car got totalled by a drunk driver from the 'burbs a couple weeks ago while it was _parked_ on New Market st. It will be a little while before I replace it, do I need to worry about the permits getting exhausted before then?

So is your totaled car on the street now? If so, you should still be able to bring the registration to their office (on Market near 30th st station I believe) and get a sticker to put on the car to make sure you don't get any tickets while you figure out what to do with it.

Is there a way to get it extended to the 1000 block?

You have to get signatures from the residents that live on your block. I'm not sure how that would work on the 1000 block of New Market St. with those commercial properties. I would try anyway because its going to get much worse on your side with drivers trying to avoid the 2 hour parking on the 900 block.

I found this on the PPA website:

Which blocks are posted for residential permit parking?

Blocks that are primarily residential. According to City Ordinance 547-A, permit parking cannot be posted on a block when actual commercial and/or institutional use of property on the ground floor level of that block exceeds fifty percent.

Saw a "warning" notice on a car on New Market, so there is definitely a grace period. However, I don't know how long they will continue to issue warnings instead of tickets. Get your permits!

Our car definitely got a ticket already, so I wouldn't count on that grace period. Worst part is, you have to pay the ticket before they'll let you have the permit, and we've already made two attempts to get the permit and were rejected due to paperwork issues and mismatched addresses on things. This whole situation has been a bit of a nightmare so far for our household. Today is actually the second day taken off of work to go try and fix this situation, and hopefully will be the last because this is getting expensive.

YMMV - but they forgave my first ticket when I showed up at the hearing with proof that I had obtained a permit shortly after recieving the ticket. Although the hearing officer did state that they aren't supposed to do that, but I guess she was feeling generous that day.
