The Training Station

Postby mitchdeighan » Fri Jun 29, 2012 7:17 am

For about four years I've been flying back and forth between Philly and Portland, Oregon. If you've ever been to Portland you know: it's a really cool place...great vibe, interesting people, and the environment is truly a sight to behold! Out there I go to a gym called 24 Hr. Fitness, which is a great network of gyms. Just realized a key link between the two Portland 24 Hr. Fitness gyms I go to and the gym I now call my Philly home base, The Training Station. Both the Portland and Northern Liberties gyms provide views of the surrounding environment as you work out...but on balance, The Training Station wins this competition hands down because while you're getting your exercise at The Training Station you are SURROUNDED by the most awesome, panoramic views of Northern Liberties and Philadelphia, including center city's fantastic skyline. You have never seen Northern Liberties like you will from this new gym.

This is no incidental aspect of this particular fitness facility, because what I'm finding is that I LOVE being at The Training Station because of the UNPRECEDENTED relationship of the gym space to the surrounding environment. For me, the physical benefits of working out at a gym are multiplied to an even higher uplifting experience. ALL of the cardio equipment at The Training Station provides one of the most spectacular workout experiences possible, anywhere on the planet.

If you like or even love Northern Liberties, and/or Philadelphia...as former bodybuilder Schwarzenegger once sorta said in one of his movies:
"Get your ass to The Training Station!"

Here's their website...owner Phil Clark is a great person:

The Training Station is located on the third floor of the oval-shaped building that Darling's Diner is in, between The Piazza and the new Northern Liberties SuperFresh.

Great testimonial for The Training Station. Phil is just simply awesome as well as the gym. As you said, the views are amazing and the equipment is top-of-the-line. I really enjoy going there as well (just need to go more often) !

Here's a fraction of the awesome view from The Training Station..and when I say "a fraction", imagine the difference between a tiny polaroid photo and a gigantic full-motion IMAX-scale panorama..

Great photo.

I never grow tired of that view as our office (REMAX Access) is on the 5th floor. I think we have the best settlement room in the City, but of course I am a little biased : )

The Training Station was just selected Best of Philly 2012!
Here's the write up, from the new edition of Philadelphia Magazine:

Best Gym
The Training Station

Pro runner Phil Clark built his NoLibs gym for himself, filling it with his favorite toys, like four-minute-mile treadmills and a rowing machine with a built-in water chamber. Now you're welcome to play with them, too. 1033 North 2ND Street, third floor, Philadelphia, 215-964-9558.
