Finnegans disgraceful Trash

Postby ric » Sun Mar 18, 2012 11:01 am

Unbelievable. At 10:30 AM I was driving by Finnegans. Neighbors were actually pointing to the amount of trash that was left outside of Finnegans. Cups, broken bottles, and trash spread all over the sidewalk and street. Earlier I noticed workers sweeping outside of the Tap. So I took a look at North 3rd, 700, and Liberties- all were spotless. Considering how much money Finnegans pulled in this St. Patty's weekend, you would think they would have made some kind of clean up effort. I pulled over and yelled to someone that they must clean it up. I got a "Yeah-we know" response. Oh brother.

What I was wondering, why are they still allowed to have that dumpster blocking Bodine street. I thought someone was going to resolve that issue.

How would one go about reporting this to the city?

When we saw two girls urinating in the parking lot next to Finnegans wake (before 6 pm), I can only imagine that they were in for a long night, as well as the neighbors... And not for nothing, these 2 girls did not look 21. It was not a pretty sight in broad daylight. Does Finngegans have any responsibility of monitoring the parking lot and all the people hanging outside of the bar?

A photo of the Standard Tap taken the same morning- at the same time. Note how they cleaned the curb and the surrounding sidewalks.

Ugh. People make me sick. I just can't put myself inside the head of such inconsiderate people. I would never just leave trash around like that. Find a damn trashcan! Even if they are full, leave trash on the bar or on a table for the bar to deal with. Not outside!! I hope they clean up soon or that trash is going to move to other parts of the neighborhood.

Thanks for the info and the pics, Ric.

As of around 3PM Sunday, Finnegan's had cleaned up the sidewalk on Spring Garden. But I noticed that the sidewalk on 3rd St. just south of Spring Garden was totally full of litter, including a good deal of empty cups, and tossed and broken bottles.

I also noticed that the parking lot on the east side of 3rd just above Green - which is a lot Finnegan's controls and uses as far as I know - was still full of litter and alcohol-related trash.

Mary - as for the dumpster, yes, it's still illegal for them to block the street with it. My impression is that they seem to think they can keep it there until we reach some kind of agreement on how to deal with Bodine St. moving forward, now that privatizing that street is off the table.

We will continue to call 311 - and I encourage anyone who's upset about the dumpster there to call about it too.

Best,
Matt

Considering a male, or two, like to pee regularly at the bus stop, I guess I'd be almost happy to see 2 females peeing in this neighborhood. Not to mention the constant homeless man #2's that everyone thinks is from dogs.
Just funny that someone had to mention the chicks peeing. Underaged or not, I see males pissing in this neighborhood in public from the piazza, to my block, to no libs land, to spring garden.
I guess that's ok though? Pick your battles, eh? I would rather gouge my eyeballs out than ever see this activity again.
So finally some filthy equality and no one can take it? Then again, I wouldn't want to be equal to anything that pees in public. Seems beneath most people to urinate in public, eh? But I guess it's only bad enough when it's females?

I love that last post - what a great point! Talk about gender bias. I found some guys peeing all over my garage on St. Patrick's Day. It's disgusting whoever pees in public, but no one ever blames the guys.

About a year or so ago, I saw a guy blatantly peeing on the corner of 4th and Brown. As I walked by, I gave him a shove which toppled him - and I imagine pissed all over himself. I then "nicely" told his drunk buddy that I live in this neighborhood and that we could "work out our differences" if need be. I got called a few nasty names, but that's it.

I'm not trying to act like a tough guy, but this disrespect infuriated me. So yeah, I think public urination in the neighborhood is indeed a problem - and it's not limited to 2nd St. or Finnegan's.

newsflash: public urination is not a problem specific to finnegans, or the neighbor for that matter. if you're of that belief maybe you should get out more. in fact, just last week when leaving work in south philly - mid afternoon, on broad street, on a weekday, in broad daylight - an older gentleman was leaning against the wall of a subway station letting loose. pretty disgusting. i gave him a very loud "NICE!" as i walked past and he mumbled something about having no where else to go. what bugged me most was that there were kids within 20-30 feet of this guy.

and to address the gender bias re: public urination, my opinion is that as a society we are clearly less comfortable with a woman doing this simply due to the convenience of a mans ability to easily pull out their junk and piss where ever they please, whereas a woman has to basically disrobe their bottom half and find a place squat - something as a society we're less familiar or comfortable with seeing. i could care less, if you gotta go you gotta go. but its not cool if its on someones doorstep/property/etc.

Thought I would repost this message thread. Perhaps since Finnegans is looking to get their way with zoning, the neighborhood can finally get them to clean up their garbage in the streets/sidewalks after they host an event. These pictures were taken the day after their St. Pattys event.

Lest we forget what sterling neighbors Finnegans is. I wonder how long it will take Bodine Street to look like these pictures? I foresee lots of Red Solo cups flying over the balconies onto Spring Garden Street.
Pathetic that Sugarhouse is funding this too. They are clearly a FOR PROFIT enterprise, and a Trashy one at that!
Someone in the press needs to dig into this one.

So I was wondering if someone can post a list of all the money's from sugar house and where it is going. I am not familiar how to request money from the fund but I do have some ideas off the top of my head. Here's a short list. No particular order.
1. Wouldn't it be it be nice if sugar house money could pay a crew of out of work folks to sweep up 2 nd street every monday. As well as the new area around the war memorial on spring garden.
2. Could Sugar house contribute money to the 6th District to pay for overtime for the police on the weekends.
3. Maybe some money to the Rec center to fund more great programs .or hey while I'm getting wishy to convert the outdoor pool into an indoor pool that can be used year round and fundedwithsugarhouse money
4.maybe a blight fund to help fix some of the broken windows pull weeds uneven sidewalks clean out storm drains etc etc.
5. I'd love it if sugar house can contribute money to the homeless shelters ,woman's shelters , City infrastructure ,Schools and generally anything other than a for profit business. Thanks and Happy 4 th.
