That building has such potential. I hope someone gets it who can restore it to its former glory.

tower came to nlna zoning some months back for a townhome development on the property just south of 5th and fairmount (between the corner building and the dollar general/plaza). from what i recall the neighborhood was against it. maybe they are going to shove it through zoning anyway?

from march 2012 nlna zoning meeting email: 8:00 - 626 N. 5th St. - Tina Roberts (Tower) - L4 - Proposal to build 9 single family dwellings (on 6th st side).

we really should have higher density (5-6 stories?) and mixed-use in that area.

i walked by today, and the zoning notices are indeed for 8-9 single family homes. they are posted on the 6th and fairmount corner of the building on that spans the entire side of that street, not the middle lot which i originally thought. still not sure how this lot is parceled out or what the plans for the whole site are, since the notices are only posted to the 6th street side (they will probably have to tear the entire building down, right?).

the ZBA hearing is october 31st.

if this passes ZBA, it will be a big missed opportunity for vibrant, mixed-use TOD on this span of spring garden corridor.

Interested neighbors should attend the Oct 31 hearing to express their views.
